JAELL Ellis Sewing Co.
With only a month to get my life together I did everything I could to get my name out about prom, and not only did I make enough money to get an apartment but I also got 20 prom clients
I’m Jayda Ellis, a 21 year old fashion designer and Sewing Instructor from Houston, Texas.
I am the owner of fashion brand , JAELL and sewing company, Ellis Sewing Co. I was in second grade when I started to get interested in fashion.
I watched my Aunt Melissa Design clothes for her church and It made me wanna do the same thing!
After years of many DIY projects I was certain that fashion was something I wanted to do so I finally decided to start my business in middle school. I created JaEll Designs.
Once I got to High School I started taking sewing lessons at a local hobby lobby and that’s when things really started to change for me. At 15 I was making boxer shorts. At 16 I was doing skirts and fur coats.
At 17 I did my very first prom dress and couldn’t stop making dresses after that.
I decided that in order for me to take my skill to the next level I needed to leave Texas.
I ended up attending Clark Atlanta university and after 1 year of attending I had to drop out because I couldn’t afford it.
I could go back to Texas so with only a month to get my life together I did everything I could to get my name out about prom and not only did I make enough money to get an apartment but I also got 20 prom clients.
Ever since I left school I didn’t let my circumstances keep me from growing. In fact I feel like my skills have grown more than they would have if I stayed at my school.
Last year I realized that there are more people out there like me. People who love to design but can’t afford to learn through college.
That is what started Ellis Sewing Co. I currently teach advanced dressmaking classes, beginner classes and sell high fashion sewing patterns all for an affordable price!
I honestly love what I do and I keep doing it for many reasons. When it comes to fashion I literally can’t see myself doing anything else. I love to create. And I’ve invested my whole life into what I do.
And when it comes to my sewing company I really want to help others who were in my position.
I want to help aspiring designers reach their goals just like how I was helped by so many people on my journey.
COVOID-19 has affected my business in many ways. This would typically be the busiest time of the year for me because of prom but since proms have been cancelled that has caused some issues for me.
It’s also the reason all of my in person sewing classes were cancelled but on the bright side this virus has also motivated me to start the online sewing classes and YouTube channel that I’ve been wanting to do for a while now.
In the future I see myself as a very successful high end fashion designer. I plan to design for some of the wealthiest women of today’s society.
I’ll have my own studio, a team to help with my day to day tasks and I also plan to not only do custom but have ready to wear garments as well. I see my sewing company taking off as well.
Once the right moment comes I would like to add my own sewing machines, sewing equipment and fabric stores to my list of services.
I’m definitely building an empire for myself and my family and I know that it will all come together as long as I keep faith in God’s plan for my life.
